Torres de Serranos

The Torres de Serranos are one of the most impressive relics of the medieval city fortifications – and definitely the landmark of Barrio del Carmen! These imposing twin towers from the 14th century once guarded the main entrance to the city from the north.

Built between 1392 and 1398 by Pere Balaguer, the towers are a masterpiece of Gothic military architecture. With their height of over 30 meters and massive stone walls, they were virtually impregnable. Fun fact: The towers were never really tested in battle – their mere presence was enough to deter attackers!

Today you can climb the towers and be rewarded with a spectacular 360° panoramic view: the old town at your feet, the cathedral in the distance, and the green Turia Gardens winding through the city like a ribbon. The view is especially magical at sunset!

Interesting twist: The Torres de Serranos also served for a long time as a prison for nobles – if you're going to lock someone up, at least do it in style! Today they're a venue for concerts and cultural events, and every year on March 1st, the Fallera Mayor announces the beginning of the famous Fallas celebrations here.
