Torres de Quart

The Torres de Quart are the rough siblings of the elegant Serranos towers – and they've experienced much more! These massive twin towers on the west side of the old town guarded the road to Quart de Poblet and have worn their scars with pride over the centuries.

What's special? The facade is covered with cannonball impacts from the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century! You can still clearly see the traces of French artillery today – history you can touch. The Valencians deliberately chose not to repair these battle scars, as a warning and reminder.

Built between 1441 and 1460 by Pere Bonfill, the towers are a perfect example of Gothic-Valencian defensive architecture. The walls are up to 3.5 meters thick – nothing got through easily!

The fascinating thing: the towers have survived all attacks, all sieges, and all wars. Today they stand there, imposing, with their battle scars, telling stories from times when Valencia constantly had to defend itself.

In the 19th century, the Torres de Quart were even used as a women's prison – a dark phase in their history. Today you can climb them and enjoy a great view over the western old town.
