Plaza del Ayuntamiento

The Plaza del Ayuntamiento is Valencia's showpiece – the representative main square where the city shows its best side. Here stands not only the imposing town hall (Ayuntamiento), but also the magnificent main post office, both in elegant neo-baroque style.

The square is the pulsing center of the city and at the same time a place to breathe. The large fountains in the middle create a pleasant atmosphere, and the many flower beds – especially in spring during Fallas time – transform the Plaza into a colorful sea of flowers.

Speaking of Fallas: every year in March, the official opening of the festivities takes place here with the daily Mascletà – a deafening fireworks display in broad daylight that makes the earth shake! If you're here in March, you must experience this. Every day at 2 PM, the Plaza transforms into a spectacle of smoke, noise, and pure adrenaline.

But even outside Fallas season, the square is worth a visit: locals meet here to chat, tourists take photos of the magnificent town hall, and in the evening when everything is illuminated, the Plaza unfolds its very special charm.

You can actually visit both main buildings from the inside – especially the town hall with its magnificent ballroom is impressive. And the post office? An architectural gem with its huge glass dome!
