Valencia Cathedral

The majestic Valencia Cathedral is an architectural mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque – and allegedly houses the Holy Grail! Yes, THE chalice that Jesus is said to have drunk from at the Last Supper. Is it true? The Valencians are convinced!

The cathedral was built in the 13th century on the ruins of a mosque, which in turn stood on a Roman temple. History in layers! The interior is breathtaking: soaring Gothic vaults, magnificent Renaissance frescoes, and an imposing dome that captures the light magically.

The Miguelete (or Micalet, as the Valencians say) is the cathedral's bell tower and THE landmark of the city. 207 steps lead to the top – it's worth it! The 360° panoramic view over Valencia is spectacular: the old town, the sea, the mountains – all at once.

Don't miss the cathedral museum with works by Goya and other masters. And the Capilla del Santo Cáliz, where the Holy Grail is kept – a small, unassuming chalice made of agate that attracts countless pilgrims.
